"We implemented Lawtrac in 2004. We have realized numerous savings and improvements. In terms of
increased productivity, attorneys now spend less time writing monthly status memos on their matters
because they use Lawtrac to generate the memo from their status notes.
There is also less duplication of work — business partners would often ask different attorneys to work
on the same matter. Now, before beginning to work on a matter for a client, attorneys check Lawtrac
to see if anyone else is already working on that matter. The general counsel has freed up time that
previously was spent walking round the department, sending e-mails and making phone calls checking
on the status of matters. He now gets updated on the status of a matter sitting at his desk and checking
Lawtrac instead.
In terms of cost savings, outside counsel are more efficient, and therefore more cost-conscious, in what
they do on a matter because they know the law department is able to more effectively monitor their

"We implemented Lawtrac in January, 2006. Since then, the most noticeable cost savings have been
associated with outside counsel collaboration and the efficiency, time savings, and productivity that
result from the collaborative process. We are able through the use of real-time, online case notes,
document storage and search capabilities to present to our general counsel with 30-, 60- and 90-day
reports on all critical, significant and open matters to help build strategy. The general counsel has a
checklist of information that is automatically generated for each matter using Lawtrac.
Documents no longer come into our company via mail or e-mail and then cut and pasted, organized and
distributed by the file handlers. Instead, using Lawtrac, this information is input directly by the law firm
attorneys into the specific matter assigned to the outside counsel.
Duplication of work (i.e., dictation, word processing, editing and mailing) is eliminated because
everything that happens on a case is directly entered and saved in Lawtrac by the law firm. We no
longer need to run to the fax machine, no more pages of emails have to be read, organized, then cut and
pasted into matter files by the file handler. Our mail costs, copying costs and fax charges from outside
counsel has dropped dramatically; so have billable hours because the firms no longer have to play
telephone tag and then bill for phone time - they simply upload their documents directly into Lawtrac
and/or add case notes that are immediately accessible to the corporate attorneys assigned to the case.
Printing costs and copying costs are dramatically reduced; chasing down information and documents no
longer takes any time away from productive tasks and work. "

"Clearly the best benefit of Lawtrac's Contract Management Module is having the contract right at your
fingertips when the President or CFO asks for it. Another benefit is the reminder notification feature.
When we enter a contract into Lawtrac, we also enter the date of termination, or more important, the
date we must give notice if we do not wish it to automatically renew. I then receive an email which
prompts me to send the applicable notice information along to whoever in our company is the contact
person on that contract to confirm whether we want to terminate or let it automatically renew. We use
the contract management module for our leases as well.
When we started using the Lawtrac contract management module, we also created a contract summary
and approval form which must be completed before the legal department will review any contracts.
On this form we require the employee to fill in the parties to the contract, the start and end date,
any renewal periods and any other relevant terms as well as requiring the approval signature of the
business, finance and legal parties involved. The beauty of this form is that once the contract has been
approved and signed and it is ready to be entered onto Lawtrac, all the pertinent info is at our fingertips.
The approval form is downloaded onto Lawtrac along with the executed contract."
